Welcome to my tarot blog. I am a tarot beginner, I picked up my Rider-Waite deck shortly after Christmas 2009 after having wanted to learn to read for a long time. I keep this blog mostly for myself, but would welcome any discussion that anybody would like to contribute to my tarot journaling. I am especially interested in the history of Tarot/Tarocchi and would like to learn not only how to read Tarot cards, but Tarot card games as well.

Daily Tarot Card Draw, 2 March 2010: Temperance (reversed)

Photobucket

AM: In Temperance, we see an angelic figure with a halo in a robe pouring water from one chalice to another. The figure is at the edge of a body of water, and there are wetland flowers and greenery nearby. In the viewer's left is a path leading to some mountains, and the sun is rising or setting (I say rising).

PM: My day today, hmm. Productive but not productive. Frustrating but rewarding. I am having difficulty arranging interviews for a AV project being done for us by a local college student. I am feeling harassed by a museum "user" or "patron". After work, I went for a run and it was amazing, but now I'm a little tender.

Interpretation: The Only Tarot Book agrees with me, the sun is rising :) Temperance is all about balance and patience. In the reverse position, as I drew it today, Temperence suggests that things are stalled and will be sorted with patience. I don't mind being patient for the AV project because that's going to be awesome when it all sorts out- but I don't want to have patience with the museum user I feel in conflict with. The Only Tarot Book suggests that I need to "temper inner extremes that throw you out of balance." That's pretty good advice no matter what's going on. Maybe I should do some sun salutations to keep me mellow.

  1. Hi-- I was searching for a Fool pic on Photobucket and found your blog -- very nice. A book or two to consider (if you don't have enough already): Butler's Dictionary of Tarot, which collects a number of interpretations and adds the author's own trenchant commentary.

If you're into real heavy lifting, there's also Meditations on the Tarot: A Journey into Christian Hermeticism by Anonymous (1985). This gives some very deep insights into the Majors. And also a nice thing to wave when someone wants to bug you about how "new age" tarot is.

I'm just getting back into Tarot by way of Runes, which I haven't done in may years. Feel free to stop by my blog and say hi!

  2. Hi Les, thanks for the book suggestions! One day, I hope to do some really hardcore reading like Meditations on Tarot- I just gotta get a handle on it generally first ;) All my tarot card scans like that come from this site: ftp://ftp.lysator.liu.se/pub/magick/Tarot/Riderwaite_jpg/ So I can't take any credit :)
